Zijn theorie doorbreekt de heersende tweedeling (state - non state) onder hypnosetheoretici. Hij hoopt daarmee het hypnoseonderzoek te stimuleren en een impuls te geven aan theorievorming over hypnose. Niet in de laatste plaats wil de auteur met zijn boek de hypnotherapeutische hulp aan onder andere patiënten met autisme en met hechtingsproblemen bevorderen.
